10 Things I Wish I Brought to College

When my sister moved into her dorm, she forgot all her underwear and my mom had to express ship them the next day. When I moved in, I managed to keep my undergarments in tow, but I did have to make multiple drug store runs in the next few weeks. With university acceptances coming out around this time of year, I thought it would be a good time to post about some typically forgotten items that’ll you’ll be happy to have when the time comes.

how to travel with only a carry-on bag

How To Travel With Just A Carry-On

If you follow me on Instagram, you’d probably know that Cameron & I just returned from Spring Break in California! While Cameron is an incredibly effective packer, I am one of many who fall victim to the overpacking epidemic. Everytime I travel, I bring out an XXXL suitcase, and fill it to the brim just because I have the space. Once on vacation and everything becomes unfolded and a little disorganized, it is impossible to fit everything back into said suitcase, and I return to the airport with an overflowing purse, carry-on and overflowing bag that surpasses the weight limit. Just because I’m incompetent at organization.

This time around, I told myself that I could not repeat this pattern of chaos. Travelling is hectic enough and any added stress is in my no-fly zone. By only bringing a carry-on & a large purse, I committed to being an efficient and organized packer. If you’re interested in seeing what I brought for a one week vacation, read through for the details. Continue Reading

lemon & earl grey tea loaf with blueberry drizzle

Lemon & Earl Grey Tea Loaf with Blueberry Drizzle

It’s tea time! Seriously – any time of day, you can find me with a cup of tea. There’s something so soothing about a warm mug of freshly brewed tea. Especially in these arctic temperatures. I was brewing myself a cup of earl grey tea the other day to thaw after coming in from the cold. I had spilled some loose leaf tea,  and inspiration hit. I had to bake something that incorporated earl grey aromas with the moistness of a milky cup of tea. Throw in milk, honey & lemon for all of the flavours that make tea so delicious and comforting.

This loaf can be served for dessert or breakfast. Expect it to crack – giving a nice vessel for filling, lemon curd in the morning, or blueberry drizzle for dessert.

VALENTINE'S PLAYLIST - love songs {paperclips & peonies}

long songs for valentines day

Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope you’re spending a day all about love spending time with your loved ones, doing things that make you smile. I’ve put together a short and sweet soundtrack for any romantics out there, even if you’re spending Valentine’s day with your boys Ben & Jerry. I’m currently on vacation in the Bay Area, but my Valentine’s Weekend plans are pretty quiet – a private walk to the farmers market & a picnic at a winery is the game plan for today. Since it’s a family trip, we’re only going to do lunch, but on Monday, we’re headed into San Fran for 48 hours for some more Love Week outings. Stay tuned for a full post about our vacay sometime soon! Since I’m on holiday, I’m going to keep this post short. You can follow along my travel adventures best on Instagram. Hope you enjoy the mix; listen to it here.  Continue Reading

how to have a date night in

When it’s this cold out, it’s hard to find creative date ideas outside dinner & a movie. Even walking to the subway in this weather is almost intolerable without wearing 4 pairs of pants. It’s so much easier in the summer, when going outside is actually welcoming and you can explore the city around you. While it’s important to get out of the house and change the routine, I believe people are too quick to write off takeout & netflix. Special doesn’t have to mean formal wear and a five-star bill. Save yourself the all the “pardon me’s” from chatting in a loud restaurant and struggling to get off your Spanx at the end of the night. Cut the strangers out and get into comfy clothes – have an special date night with just you and your best friend instead. Read through for more staying in date ideas.  Continue Reading

Happy Valentine’s Week everyone! Hope you all are spending the week with loved ones or with an exorbitant amount of chocolate. This recipe uses chambord, ginger ale, vodka & grenadine for extra colour. Serve the kids ginger ale & grenadine in a martini glass for some virgin Valentine’s Day fun. Salut! Continue Reading
