The holidays are full of sweets and treats. Some of my favourite holiday traditions are rooted in family recipes, or spending time baking in the kitchen. Now that the holidays are coming to a close, the sugar coma is kicking in and all I want to do is lounge around and nibble into leftover baking. Since the new year is coming up, its a great time to kick your system into gear and refresh your body. I’m not willing to give up my enjoyment of food for cleansing purposes – one time I went on a juice cleanse to drop weight quickly before prom and I literally became a monster and went to McDonald’s after the third day. So, I’ve put together some seasonally appropriate recipes that are not only delicious, but also have some added health benefits to help get your mind and body in shape for the new year!
Squash is a great way to fulfill your starch cravings in a healthy way. It’s full of anti-inflammatory anti-oxidants, omega 3s, and beta carotene. These elements will help you fight off that nasty winter flu going around the office.
Not only is pumpkin one of my favourite flavours when I need something comforting, its also packed with Vitamin A and beta-carotene. It’s also super high in fibre, making it filling, without a ton of calories.
Mother Nature can be the coolest sometimes; making something so delicious yet so good for you! As an anti-oxidant rich superfood, add pomegranate to literally everything you make for an added health kick. On a beach this holiday? Pomegranates have UV ray reversing magic. It’s (un)surprisingly versatile in recipes, from sweets to salads.
